Ucommerce 10: Timeline & News Update

Bringing e-commerce to Umbraco 9

We are extremely excited to announce that we are working on the next major version of Ucommerce!

Today, we are letting you in on the exciting things coming with Ucommerce 10 and the timeline for it to allow you to prepare well in advance and get excited about it together with us.

Dilemma

In honesty, our dilemma is the choice between shipping more later or shipping less earlier - while adhering to our quality standards. Faced with this choice, we are aiming to deliver a quality product as feature-heavy as possible and as soon as possible. Post Ucommerce 10, we build on top of it to deliver on new features, improvements, and features that might have not made the first iteration.

In summary, this decision means we are putting our quarterly release cadence on hold. As already stated we do this to ensure that we deliver a quality lovable product you will be excited to use and which lays the groundwork for the future of Ucommerce.

So, what’s new with Ucommerce 10?

Allow us to cover in broad strokes what goodies are coming with Ucommerce 10.

Bringing e-commerce to Umbraco 9

Most importantly, the goal is to bring e-commerce to Umbraco 9 and beyond. We have been a part of the Umbraco ecosystem for over 10 years, and we are dedicated to keeping it that way. That is why we are here to make sure that your future e-commerce stores using Umbraco 9 or above can be built using Ucommerce.

Of course, Ucommerce 10 will not be exclusive to Umbraco. Among the first follow-ups, we will be improving our integration layer in order to then enable Ucommerce 10 for both Sitefinity and Sitecore.

.Net and maintaining product identity

All features you know and love, among many others, our brand new user interface, our fast search engine, and brand new transactional headless APIs will all be available. But it is not all about existing features. We are also improving the editor experience for permission management along with a lot of improvements to the developer experience of the platform.

As an example, the Pipeline framework - one of our staple features - is getting improvements aimed at making error handling and their usage more robust. The installation of the platform is also becoming easier and faster.

Ucommerce 10 is built with .NET 6 - which in itself is a big technical upgrade. Solutions built with Ucommerce will benefit from more streamlined workflows, improved overall performance, a lower barrier of contribution, and a lower cost of hosting. In short, they will be more robust, more flexible, and faster.

It is important that developers familiar with the new framework will feel right at home with Ucommerce 10. That is why our goal is to align closely with conventions and patterns put forward by the framework while maintaining the product identity of Ucommerce and ultimately ensure you get the best of both worlds.

Ucommerce 10 timeline and updates

We are committed to delivering the best quality product, while also evolving it and delivering improvements. We are expecting to release the first public version of Ucommerce 10 between the end of the third quarter and the beginning of the fourth quarter of the year.

This will be the first production-ready release, and any potential missing features alongside new features will be added on with subsequent releases.

It is a journey to Ucommerce 10, and thus, we will make sure to update you regularly about our progress. We will of course also continue to release potential bug fixes and security updates for Ucommerce 9.
